About Katiana
Katiana Carey-Simms started at CommuniCare+OLE in 2023. She received her Masters in Nursing from University of California San Francisco in 2023 and completed her Bachelors in Nursing at Emory University. Prior to coming to CommuniCare+OLE, Katiana worked in birth centers and community healthcare. She also participates in resource distribution for communities in San Francisco and Oakland. She specializes in breastfeeding support, childbirth education, harm reduction, reproductive justice, Black liberation, and whole-family centered care.
My approach to care
My care philosophy/approach to care is meeting family’s where they are, providing information to encourage folks to think for themselves and work together with their providers in their care.
Why I went into healthcare
I was called to midwifery because there is a wonderful intersection of justice, science, magic, and tradition. I find fulfillment in creating healing and dignified spaces for historically structurally targeted communities
Something you might not know about me
Something you might not know about me is that I enjoy baking bread and watching the sky change from night to morning and day to night.
