Get Your Hands Dirty in One of Our Community Gardens
Darioush Community Garden at the Napa Valley Vintners South Napa Campus
Our South Napa Campus located at 300 Hartle Court has a 3,400-square-foot community garden, made possible through the generosity of donors, including Darioush and Shahpar Khaledi. It provides a space where you can learn how to grow and harvest food, work with seasonal ingredients, and get a little physical activity caring for the plants.
The garden contains six raised beds where seasonal fruits and veggies like snap peas, bush beans, squash, tomatoes, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, and melon are planted. We also grow marigolds and sunflowers. In addition to the raised beds, we grow several edible trees and shrubs such as fig, stone fruit, apple, pomegranate, blueberry, and citrus.
Garden with the Masters
Our monthly free community event, Garden with the Masters, with our partners, the UC Master Gardeners of Napa County, provides instruction to our patients and community.
Join us the second Thursday of each month from 11 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Food Is Medicine Garden at Hansen Family Health Center in Woodland
Staff and patients can relax, garden, or enjoy a lunch break in this healing environment just outside of Hansen Family Health Center in Woodland. CommuniCare+OLE clients are invited to take freshly harvested, garden-grown fruits and vegetables, recipes, and nutrition information free of charge in Primary Care, Behavioral Health, and Dental Care waiting rooms. Cooking classes and food demonstrations also feature garden-grown produce. Gardening classes are offered monthly; check out our event calendar for more information.
In 2020, with help from the local community and businesses, an empty lot was transformed into an 11,000-square-foot garden. Our 12 raised garden beds produce a variety of vegetables, and three beds are accessible to all abilities. Fruit trees, a grape arbor, and herb beds complement the annual vegetables with perennial plantings. The garden includes accessible pathways, a shade structure that serves as our Outdoor Classroom, seating and picnic tables, storage sheds, and a greenhouse for plant propagation. We distribute an average of 3,000 lbs/year of garden produce to patients, and volunteers are essential to our work. See our volunteer page to get involved.
Salud Garden
The newest CommuniCare+OLE garden is located just outside the steps to Salud Clinic in West Sacramento. This oasis of life was installed in 2023 in an urban setting dominated by pavement. Raised garden beds are located on top of concrete and bordered with benches to offer staff and patients an outdoor place for grounding. At 432 square feet, the Salud Garden demonstrates how food can be grown in a variety of settings, and is used to engage participants in planting, tending, and harvesting produce.
