About Dena
Dena Cissna started at CommuniCare+OLE in 2025. She received her Lactation Consultant certificate from UCSD in 2007. Prior to coming to CommuniCare+OLE, She worked for Adventist Health for 27 years. She specializes in complex lactation issues from pregnancy to weaning.
My approach to care
My care philosophy/approach to care Is to provide consistent comprehensive lactation care and share my knowledge with my peers while serving the needs of the community.
Why I went into healthcare
I became a Lactation Consultant because of my experience breastfeeding my son, and the need for lactation services in my community. Insurance didn’t cover lactation services at the time, so I started a grant funded lactation center which provided care to all families for 6 years, until the affordable care act began covering breastfeeding services in 2013. We were able to continue providing breastfeeding support post grant funding and serve as a model for other facilities to grow their own lactation programs.

Something you might not know about me is that I enjoy being outdoors, music, cooking, and living sustainably.
